DURHAM, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the latest singles and doubles rankings Wednesday with four Duke women's tennis singles and one Blue Devil doubles team listed nationally.
In the singles rankings, Duke had freshman
Irina Balus (#11), sophomore
Eleana Yu (#23), senior
Emma Jackson (#29) and sophomore
Shavit Kimchi (#51) in the top 51. The Blue Devil tandem of Balus and senior
Ellie Coleman were also No. 11 in doubles.
Balus, a native of Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, has stepped in as a rookie and been very impressive with a 12-2 overall singles ledger, including a 5-0 dual match mark. She has totaled six wins against ranked opponents and currently boasts a five-match winning streak.
After transferring to Duke this summer, Yu has made an immediate impact with the Blue Devils with a 9-3 singles ledger. She has won seven out of the last eight matches and features an 8-0 dual match mark over her career. A product of Mason, Ohio, Yu owns three victories against ranked opponents.
Jackson, who is from La Grange Park, Ill., has totaled a 15-7 singles record in her final year with the Blue Devils. She has registered five wins against ranked opponents on the season and 77 wins over her Duke career.
Kimchi has won three out of her last four singles matches and owns a 9-7 ledger on the year. A native of Sdey Hemed, Israel, Kimchi has totaled two ranked singles wins and seven over her first two seasons with the Blue Devils.
Coming off earning All-America accolades in the fall together, Coleman and Balus have logged a 12-4 doubles record together this season. They have totaled a pair of ranked wins and their only dual match losses have come against teams ranked No. 2 and No. 14 nationally.
Duke will be off this weekend, before returning to action Friday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m., against 17th-ranked Ohio State inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
