Maguire Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

DURHAM, N.C.—Duke junior Aidan Maguire was named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the Blue Devils' season-opening victory over Bellarmine.
A preseason All-America first-team choice by Inside Lacrosse, the veteran shortstick midfield helped anchor a solid defensive effort by Duke with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. He also added a goal in the 26-7 triumph.
Maguire matched his career-best two caused turnovers and four ground balls as Duke held Bellarmine to just seven goals and without a goal for over 20 minutes in the first half. The native of Hingham, Massachusetts notched his ninth career goal early in the third quarter, sparking an 8-2 quarter for the Blue Devils.
Playing in 39 career games, Maguire has 27 career caused turnovers, leaving him 12 shy of climbing into the top 10 in Duke history.
The Blue Devils hit the road for the first time this season Feb. 8. Duke and Jacksonville face off at noon at D.B. Milne Field on ESPN+.
