DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND – Former Duke field hockey stars Leah Crouse and Jillian Wolgemuth have been selected to the 22-athlete squad that will represent the United States at the 3 Nations Tournament in Zealand as announced by USA Field Hockey Monday.
Crouse and Wolgemuth will travel to with the 12th-ranked U.S. Women's National Team to Dunedin, New Zealand as the United States embarks on a warm weather training camp as well as competitive matches against No. 11 Japan and No. 9 New Zealand.
Taking place from January 20 to 24, this will be the USWNT's first official competition of 2026 as they build into an exciting year featuring the FIH Hockey World Cup.
"This is the perfect opportunity to start the buildup to August's World Cup with some warm-weather training and quality competitive matches against two international teams currently ranked ahead of ourselves but whom we have had some good recent results over," commented U.S. Women's National Team head coach David Passmore. "It will be exciting to start the preparation for the Nations Cup and World Cup in the summer and competition for places after an intense, tight training block this fall. The
South Island is a beautiful part of the world and we thank New Zealand Hockey for hosting us as our relationship continues to blossom."
Both Wolgemuth and Crouse have been a part of the women's national team for the past few years with Wolgemuth earning her first cap in 2021. Crouse followed suit a year later, making her first appearance in a U.S uniform against Argentina. Both recorded their 50th caps in 2024.
Wolgemuth will be making her return to the national team after suffering a knee injury prior to the Paris Olympics. The 2020 Duke graduate, instrumental in the United States earning a spot in Paris, was injured just prior to the Olympics. Crouse, a 2021 Blue Devil graduate, has been a mainstay with the national team and made the move to the backfield after spending most of her hockey career at midfield or forward.
This event will provide the United States preparation for the FIH Hockey World Cup this summer in Belgium and The Netherlands.
