KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After one season with the Duke women's soccer program, freshman
Mary Long has signed a professional contract with the Kansas City Current of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), as announced by the Current on Wednesday.
A native of Mission Hills, Kan., Long has trained with the Kansas City Current over the past two years and gets a chance to play for her hometown squad in the professional ranks.
"This is the moment I've dreamed of for as long as I can remember," said Long. "I am so grateful to Vlatko [Andonovski] and the rest of the staff for believing in me over the last few years. The Current holds a special place in my heart and I can't wait to represent my hometown as we pursue Championships."
Long saw action in 15 matches for the Blue Devils this past season, while totaling three goals and one assist for seven points. She helped lead Duke to the ACC regular season title and just the fifth NCAA College Cup. Long missed seven Duke contests as she represented the United States at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic. She started the final five matches of the tournament and scored one goal as the U.S. secured the bronze medal. Long scored a goal in a 5-0 clean sheet against South Korea in the group stage.
In 2024, Long registered eight overall caps with three goals and two assists for the U.S.
Long joins two-time Duke All-American Michelle Cooper, who will enter her third season with the Current.
