DURHAM, N.C. ā Duke women's golf incoming freshman
Rianne Malixi accomplished something a very few golfers of her age have registered when she captured two major United States Golf Association (USGA) tournament victories in 2024 and for that Malixi has been named the Sports Interactive Network (SPIN.PH) 2024 Rising Star of the Year.Ā
Ā
Malixi, who signed with Duke this past November, will be a freshman with the Blue Devils starting in August of 2025 under head coach
Dan Brooks.Ā
Ā
This past July, the 17-year-old Malixi started the year by winning the U.S. Girls' Junior title by beating Asterisk Talley in a grueling 36-hole showdown at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif., to join Princess Superal (2014) as Filipina golfers to win the Under-19 tournament.
Ā
Just three weeks later, Malixi also took home the U.S. Women's Amateur title by beating Talley again at the Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa, Okla., becoming the first Filipina to emerge triumphant in what is considered one of the biggest amateur tournaments in the world.
Ā
Just how rare Malixi's achievement of winning the U.S. Girls' and U.S. Women's Amateur is in the same year? Only one golfer in Eun Jeong Seong of Korea in 2016 has been able to achieve such a milestone.Ā Malixi also won the 2024 Australian Master of the Amateurs.
Ā
Malixi along with fellow Blue Devil signee
Avery McCrery have been recognized as the No. 1 recruiting class nationally.Ā
