DURHAM, N.C.—Duke women's lacrosse head coach
Kerstin Kimel has announced the addition of former Blue Devil standout
Katie DeSimone to the coaching staff as a graduate assistant student coach.
DeSimone, pursuing her Master of Management Studies degree at Duke's Fuqua School of Business, will work the offense after leading the Blue Devils in scoring the past two seasons. The native of Bay Shore, N.Y., garnered IWLCA All-America third team honors last season after pacing Duke with 85 points from 63 goals and 22 assists.
As a senior, DeSimone registered hat tricks in all but five games and had five-plus points in 11 outings, including six points in the NCAA Tournament game versus Loyola. With a hat trick at Notre Dame, the crafty attacker became just the third active player in Division I with at least 190 career goals and 75 career assists and the only player in Duke history with those numbers.
Finishing her career with 196 goals and 77 assists for 273 points, DeSimone graduated as Duke's second all-time leading goal scorer. Her 273 points rank fourth in Duke history. DeSimone registered at least 35 points in each of her four seasons and had 85 both her sophomore and senior campaigns.
The Blue Devils return five starters from last season, including
Carly Bernstein's 46 points and goalkeeper
Kennedy Everson. Sophomore
Caitlin Barrett returns following a successful summer with the United States U20 National Team at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China. Barrett helped lead the U.S. to the gold medal, including scoring four goals in the quarterfinal match.
Duke opens the 2025 season Feb. 7 against Elon at 3 p.m. The Blue Devils host seven games at home, including the inaugural ACC match against newcomer California.
