Tyler Carpenter and
JT Giles-Harris were recognized for their excellence at the annual Premier Lacrosse League End of Season Awards Ceremony Friday night.
Carpenter was voted the Brodie Merrill Long Stick Midfielder of the Year following a superb rookie season. Giles-Harris, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, won the Dave Huntley Sportsmanship Award.
Additionally, Duke star attackman
Dyson Williams will line up for the Utah Archers in search of a PLL Championship Sunday at 3 p.m., on ABC. T
Given to the player who demonstrates excellent sportsmanship, Giles-Harris was voted by fellow PLL players, coaches, general managers and members of the media. In his third season in the league, Giles-Harris continued to be a top defenseman. In his 10 outings with the Outlaws, the Duke All-American collected 15 ground balls and caused nine turnovers to launch the Outlaws back into the playoffs. In his three seasons, Giles-Harris has played 31 games and has 50 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers.
Carpenter, coming off a strong senior season as a Blue Devil, did not miss a beat when taking the next step into the PLL. The native of Durham, North Carolina led all long stick midfielders in ground balls with 41 while his seven points ranked second in the position. Helping the Atlas to the regular season title with a 7-3 record, Carpenter also had six caused turnovers in his 10 outings, fifth among fellow long stick midfielders.
Williams, running on the midfield for the Archers, has played in five games this summer, scoring four goals. He is among five midfielders on the Archer roster for the title game in Philadelphia. He looks to join the likes of former Blue Devils
CJ Costabile, Patrick Resch and
Michael Sowers to win a PLL crown.
