PARIS - The Blue Devils continued competition at the 2024 Olympics on Thursday with action in basketball and field hockey. Here is a recap from action on August 1 in France.
Great Britain Pulls Away in Third Quarter for Win over United States
Former Blue Devil star Leah Crouse started and played 38 minutes in a 5-2 loss to No. 8 Great Britain in their fourth Pool B contest. Possession was almost even with Team GB holding a slight 51-19 edge. The United States had 14 circle penetrations while Great Britain had 17. The different in the game came from the 5-of-10 shooting by Great Britian squad compared to 2-of-14 by the U.S.
Team GB opened the scoring early in the first quarter before the United States equalized on a penalty corner goal from Abigail Tamer.
Great Britain scored two goals in a span of six minutes in the second quarter, but the United Eagles refused to go away as Tamer found the cage for a second time. The third quarter proved to be the United States' undoing with tallies in the 35th and 39th minutes by Great Britain.
USA plays their final pool game on Saturday, August 3 against No. 19 South Africa at 7:15 a.m. ET. Fans can watch it live on USA Network or stream it on Peacock.

After ending the first quarter deadlocked at 23, the United States opened the second with a 12-4 burst to open up 35-27 advantage. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the period, the U.S. holding an eight-point margin at the break.
The third quarter was a physical 10 minutes of action. The United States saw its lead reach as large as 10 while Belgium was able to pull within five, but couldn't get any closer, however. The U.S. quickly extended the advantage back to double digits before going on to finish the third with a 60-53 lead.
