PARIS - The Blue Devils continued competition at the 2024 Olympics Saturday with fencing, field hockey and men's basketball. Here is a recap from action on July 27 in France.Â
Di Tella Advances to Table of 32 in Men's SabreÂ
2017 Duke fencing graduate Pascual Di Tella defeated Francois Cauchon (Canada), 15-13, in the men's sabre individual table of 64 Saturday morning.Â
Competing for Team Argentina, Di Tella fell to Ziad Elsissy (Egypt), 15-11, in the table of 32.Â
Crouse, United States Fall to No. 2 Argentina, 4-1
Former Blue Devil Leah Crouse earned the start on defense for the United States, but a pair of goals by Argentina in the final 16 minutes allowed the world's No. 2-ranked team to pull away for the 4-1 victory in field hockey pool play action.
Ashley Sessa scored for the United States in the 33rd minute to cut the lead to 2-1, but Argentina pulled away in the in the final 16 minutes.
The United States held a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. Possession stood at 52 percent for Argentina and 48 percent for the U.S.
USA will play No. 7 Spain on Monday, July 29 at 7:15 a.m. ET in their second pool game. Fans can watch it live on USA Network or stream it on Peacock.Â
Barrett Leads Canada to Victory over Greece
RJ Barrett, a consensus first team All-American during his lone season at Duke in 2018-19, scored a team-best 23 points to charge Canada to an 86-79 triumph over Greece in men's basketball Group A action. Barrett, who was born in Toronto and is a member of the NBA's Raptors, connected on 8-of-13 shots from the field and made all six free throws, while collecting four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Barrett and Canada return to action on Tuesday, July 30 versus Australia.Â
