CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference celebrated another banner year in 2023-24, with Duke University contributing to the league's campaign to ACCOMPLISH GREATNESS on the playing fields, in the classroom and in the community.
Â
Among many conference highlights in the past year, the ACC continued to rank among the nation's best in both U.S. News and World Report rankings and NCAA Graduation Success Ratings, while excelling nationally once again in NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR). Duke persisted in setting the standard academically.
Â
For the 17th consecutive year, the ACC led the way among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conferences in the "Best Colleges" rankings released by U.S. News & World Report, with Duke topping league member institutions at seventh on the distinguished list. The ACC's eight schools ranked in the top 50 were the most among all FBS conferences.
Â
The ACC's average graduation rate of 96 percent is six points higher than this year's national average of 90 percent. Duke led all Power 5 institutions with its 98 percent GSR and tied for sixth nationally overall.
Â
Every team among the ACC's 28-sponsored sports exceeded the NCAA's required APR (930), while 96 ACC teams recorded a perfect score of 1000, including 14 Duke teams. The Blue Devils totaled the highest APR score among conference institutions in 15 sports.
Â
A record-setting 6,187 student-athletes were recognized on the 2023-24 ACC Academic Honor Roll, bettering the previous league mark of 5,942 set last year. Duke achieved a conference-high 620 student-athletes with ACC Honor Roll distinction, as the Blue Devils led the conference in honorees for the 36th time in the past 37 years.
Â
In athletic competition, the 2023-24 campaign saw 12 different league members win a conference championship. Duke stands among five ACC members that captured three or more conference titles this past year, as baseball, softball and women's outdoor track and field secured league championships.
Â
On the gridiron, the ACC led all conferences with 11 bowl-eligible teams. Duke's fifth consecutive postseason victory represented one of five bowl game victories by the league.
Â
On the hardwood, the ACC's three teams in the NCAA Men's Basketball Elite Eight, including Duke, topped all conferences. In addition, the league's eight teams in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament in each of the last six years, aided by Duke's Sweet 16 appearance this season, also represents a standard no other conference can match.
Â
The ACC had multiple teams in the final four of several NCAA Championships in 2023-24. Duke's seventh appearance in the NCAA field hockey semifinals provided the conference with three of the final four teams.
Â
"It has been another monumental year for the ACC, and we are so proud of the continued success of our amazing student-athletes, coaches, and programs," said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. "The successes by our member institutions, not only this past year but over the last three years, have been nothing short of remarkable and we look forward to what's ahead for our now 18-member conference."
