EUGENE, Ore. – Duke track and field turned in another solid showing as it closed the door on the 2024 outdoor season Saturday, with the Blue Devil women notching a pair of United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors behind steady performances from senior
Brianna Smith (heptathlon) and sophomore
Lauren Tolbert (800m).
Tolbert earned her second consecutive first-team accolade in as many seasons, and third career All-America honor overall, after placing in the top eight of her race while Smith finished her NCAA Outdoor Championship debut with honorable mention honors in the heptathlon.
Overall, the Duke women turned in an incredible 2024 campaign that saw the team win its third ACC Outdoor Championship in the last four seasons and become the first ACC school to win back-to-back titles outright since the league expanded to 15 teams. The squad also made its mark in the Duke history books with the Blue Devils setting 22 top-five program marks and four school records.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- A solid race from Tolbert in the 800m final earned the sophomore her second career USTFCCCA First Team All-America accolade. Tolbert crossed the finish line in 2:01.95 – good for eighth overall.
- Smith wrapped up competition in the women's heptathlon, picking up her first All-America honor with a nod to the honorable mention team. The senior finished the multi event with 5,355 points to place 21st overall, her best performances of the day coming in the javelin and 800m.
