Moorea Mitchell notched USTFCCCA All-America honors in the women's hammer throw while sophomore
Lauren Tolbert punched her ticket to Saturday's 800-meter final to headline a solid day of competition by Duke track and field on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Both performances were personal-best efforts for Mitchell and Tolbert.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- For the second time in as many meets, Mitchell turned in the best performance of her career in the women's hammer throw – this one culminating in USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
- The senior opened her day with a bang, registering a PR on her first attempt with the toss checking in at 61.36m (201-4 feet). Mitchell improved her previous best by nearly four feet, leapfrogging one spot up the Duke charts to slot herself No. 2 all-time in program lore.
- Tolbert punched her ticket to Championship Saturday via a phenomenal race in the women's 800m prelims. The sophomore snagged one of the automatic qualifiers after finishing in the top two of her heat, clocking a personal best of 2:01.79 to advance, improving her own school record in the process.
