
Duke Finishes 17th in 2023-24 Directors’ Cup Standings

DURHAM - Duke Athletics finished the 2023-24 campaign ranked 17th in the Learfield IMG Directors' Cup Standings announced Wednesday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in the NCAA Championships, and a total of 18 Duke teams were in position to earn points.
Highlighted by the 83 points achieved by field hockey for reaching the national semifinal game in November, Duke secured 928.50 total points to finish fifth among ACC schools. The Blue Devils have finished in the top 30 all but twice in the 30 years since the Directors' Cup standings were first presented in 1993-94.
The other Blue Devil teams scoring points included men's basketball (73), softball (73), men's lacrosse (65), women's basketball (64), men's tennis (64), women's golf (61.5), fencing (60), women's swimming & diving (58.5), men's soccer (50), women's tennis (50), football (45), rowing (42), baseball (37.5), men's golf (34), men's track & field (28), women's lacrosse (25) and women's track & field (15).
Virginia finished fifth and was joined in the top 10 by North Carolina (7th) and Notre Dame (10th). Florida State (12th), Duke (17th), NC State (21st), Clemson (31st), Syracuse (44th), Louisville (49th) and Virginia Tech (50th) followed to give the ACC 10 institutions among the top 50. It marked the 22nd consecutive year that four or more ACC schools placed among the top 30 in the final rankings.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Nineteen total teams can earn points for the final standings, four of which must be baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball.
