DURHAM – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its 2024 Softball Academic All-America Teams on Tuesday with recent graduates
Claire Davidson and
Jala Wright along with rising junior
Aminah Vega earning recognition.
Davidson and Vega collected first-team honors while Wright was named to the third team.
Davidson, who hails from Lakewood Ranch, Fla., turned in a 3.771 GPA and graduated in May with a degree in sociology. The senior concluded her final season in Durham in strong fashion, leading the team in batting average (.436), home runs (18), doubles (20), runs scored (62) and RBI (67). Her 20 doubles and 67 RBI set Duke single-season records and ranked ninth and seventh in the NCAA, respectively.
A native of DeBary, Fla., Vega earned the distinction with a 3.737 GPA and is majoring in psychology. Vega was strong for the Blue Devils at the plate, batting .369 with 20 multi-hit games this season. She saw action in 59-of-61 games and finished second on the team in home runs (12), doubles (18) and RBI (52). Vega joined Davidson as the first Blue Devils to be named first-team NFCA All-Americans in Duke's record books.
A Charlotte, N.C., native, Wright earned a 3.744 GPA and graduated in May with a degree in sociology. The senior led the Blue Devils' pitching staff with 154.1 innings pitched in 34 appearances and collected 189 strikeouts on the year. Wright was unanimously voted ACC Pitcher of the Year and was selected as the ACC Tournament MVP, joining
Peyton St. George as the only Blue Devils to receive the honor. She also earned NFCA All-America Second Team recognition.
The trio earned the honors for the first time in their careers and join
Deja Davis (2023) and
Jameson Kavel (2022) as the five Blue Devils in program history to earn CSC Academic All-America recognition.
