DURHAM - Duke is set for the 2024 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament as it takes on No. 8 Loyola Friday in first round action. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m., on ESPN+.
Duke in the NCAA Tournament
- Duke makes its 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance and the first since 2022.
- The Blue Devils own a 27-21 overall record on the big stage that includes 16 quarterfinal and seven semifinal appearances. Duke last made the semifinals in 2015.
- Under the direction of head coach Kerstin Kimel, the program is 16-3 in first-round play, having won 14 consecutive first-round matchups.
- The Blue Devils have reached the quarterfinals in 12 of their past 14 appearances and the semifinals in six of their past 14.
- Duke looks to advance to the second round for the seventh time in program history and is 4-2 in those contests.
- Duke is 0-3 in NCAA Tournament games in Philadelphia.
Scouting the Greyhounds
- The Greyhounds come into Friday's contest 17-2 overall with their only losses coming to No. 5 Syracuse (16-13) and No. 14 Penn (13-6) as the eighth-ranked team in the nation.
- Offensively, Loyola boasts three players with 90 or more points on the season -- Sydni Black (73g, 28a, 101 pts), Georgia Latch (57g, 39a, 96pts) and Chase Boyle (80g, 14a, 94pts). The Greyhounds are eighth nationally in scoring offense with 15.84 goals per game.
- Boyle leads the team with 192 draw controls to rank third in the nation with 10.11 per game.
- Defender Lily Osborne leads the team with 25 caused turnovers and is second with 25 ground balls.
- Goalie Lauren Spence has amassed nearly 1,000 minutes in the cage and boasts an 8.28 GAA and a .474 save percentage.
Series History
- Duke and Loyola meet for the fifth time in program history and for the first time since 2016 with the series tied, 2-2. The Blue Devils are 1-0 in neutral site meetings, a 14-8 win in the NCAA first round in 2016.
Looking Ahead
- Should Duke advance, it will face host and eighth-seeded Penn or Richmond Sunday at 1 p.m., in the second round.
