DURHAM – Thirteen former Blue Devil standouts will take to the field this weekend as the Premier Lacrosse League gets its sixth season underway. Action starts in Albany, N.Y., June 1-2 with the 2023 PLL Championship rematch between Philadelphia Waterdogs and Utah Archers airing on ABC.
Duke's 13 representatives in the league ranks fourth among all universities. Maryland leads the way with 21 and Virginia and Notre Dame both have 14 in the league to start 2024.
The trio of
Tyler Carpenter,
Brennan O'Neill and
Josh Zawada will make their professional debuts with Carpenter donning a New York Atlas uniform and O'Neill and Zawada suiting up for Denver Outlaws.
The Waterdogs and Archers open year six June 1 at 1 p.m., on ABC. The Boston Cannons, with
Cade Van Raaphorst helping to anchor the defense, battles
Myles Jones and Carpenter of the Atlas at 3:30 p.m., on ESPN+
Sunday's contests are Carolina Chaos –
CJ Costabile and
Patrick Resch – versus a quartet of former Blue Devils with the Denver Outlaws. The final game pits Maryland Whipsnakes against New York Atlas. Both of Sunday's matchups will be streamed on ESPN+.
Michael Manley and Costabile, 2012 graduates, are the most veteran of the Blue Devils as they commence their 12th season of professional outdoor lacrosse. Costabile won a Major League Lacrosse title in 2019 and a PLL crown in 2021.
