DURHAM – The 15th-ranked Duke rowing team earned its fifth consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships after receiving an at-large bid during Tuesday night's selection show.
The 2024 NCAA Rowing Championships will be held May 31-June 2 at East Fork State Park in Bethel, Ohio.
Eleven conferences were awarded automatic qualifications in SMU, Rhode Island, Syracuse, Texas, Michigan, Northeastern, Princeton, Jacksonville, Stanford, Boston U. and Gonzaga.
Duke earned one of 11 at-large selections alongside Brown, California, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn, Rutgers, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Yale to round of the 22-team field.
The Blue Devils enter the championship as the No. 10-seed in the Varsity Four, No. 15-seed in the Second Varsity Eight and No. 16-seed in the Varsity Eight.
"We are so grateful," said head coach
Megan Cooke Carcagno. "Honestly, we knew it was going to be close with a couple of other teams, and at the end of the day, the hard work that this team put in paid off in getting that bid. I'm so proud of them and overall feel a tremendous sense of gratitude for the opportunity to go out there and compete."
Last season, Duke saw its best finish in program history, placing 14th against a tough 22-team field with 56 points at the 2023 NCAA Championships. In their four prior appearances, the Blue Devils finished 17th overall with 45 points in 2016, 16th with 47 points in 2019, 16th with 55 points in 2021 and 16th with 45 points in 2022.
The Blue Devils are coming off a bronze-medal performance at the 2024 ACC Championships on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C., last weekend. Duke tallied 78 team points, finishing behind champion No. 10 Syracuse and No. 16 Virginia in second. The Blue Devils placed all five boats into the grand final races with the Varsity Four highlighting the day after claiming a gold medal. The Second Varsity Four collected a silver medal, while the Second Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight each took home bronze.
Strong performances from sophomore
Lena Mills and senior
Kathryn Nash earned the duo All-ACC accolades. The pair both garnered all-conference honors for the first time in their careers as Mills was named to the first team and Nash earned a second team nod.
