The Opening Faceoff
- Duke turns its attention to the ACC Tournament following a 15-12 setback to North Carolina to close the regular season. Duke is the No. 3 seed based on goal differential tiebreak between UNC and Virginia. This will be the first ACC Tournament for any of the current Blue Devils.
- Duke and Syracuse are meeting for the 25th time and for the fourth time in ACC postseason action. The Orange defeated the Blue Devils, 10-4, in the regular season and owns a 15-9 lead in the series and 3-0 in ACC Tournament play.
- Syracuse enters the ACC Tournament following a bye weekend. The Orange are the No. 2 seed based on their 3-1 finish in ACC play with the lone loss coming to No. 1 Notre Dame. Syracuse is 11-4 overall and averages 14.93 goals per game with Owen Hiltz pacing the offense at 2.36 per game. Defensively, the Orange allows just 10.33 goals per game.
- The Duke defense has been solid this season, holding teams to just 9.87 goals per game to lead the ACC. The Blue Devils have held 10 of the 15 opponents to under 30 percent shooting in a game, including six of the past eight.
- The winner advances to the ACC Championship May 5 at noon.

Series History
- Duke meets Syracuse for the 25th time overall and for the 14th time as ACC foes. The Orange hold a 15-9 lead in the series and are 3-0 in ACC Tournament action. Syracuse won the regular season matchup 10-3 inside the JMA Wireless Dome.
- The Blue Devils are 0-3 in ACC Tournament games against Syracuse, losing to the Orange in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Two of those three games were decided by a single goal, while the 2016 final finished after a two-hour rain delay in Kennesaw, Ga.
- Wednesday's matchup will be the eighth time the programs have squared off with both ranked in the top five in the USILA poll. The Orange are 4-2 in those games.

Consecutive Setbacks and Rematches
- Duke teams under John Danowski have fared well after losses. Since 2007, the Blue Devils have lost consecutive games just 10 times, including twice in 2011. Duke's longest losing streak under Danowski is three games in 2015. The Blue Devils have not lost back-to-back games since losses to Syracuse and North Carolina in 2019.
- Duke, while losing few games under Danowski, also has fared well in rematches against a team following a loss. The Blue Devils are 7-4 in meetings against a team they lost to earlier in the season, which includes a 2019 NCAA quarterfinal win over Notre Dame after losing to the Irish three weeks earlier in the ACC Tournament.
- Duke has played Syracuse twice in a season six times, including twice in the regular season in 2023. The Blue Devils are 2-3 against the Orange in the second games and 0-1 when losing the first matchup. The Blue Devils beat Syracuse twice in 2012 and 2023.

- Friday's semifinal features a matchup of two top attack units. The Blue Devils' trio averages 11.80 points per game while Syracuse's starting three is at 11.73.
- Syracuse's attack unit averages 40 percent of the team's goals per game (5.96 of 14.93) while Duke's O'Neill, Williams and Zawada are scoring half of Duke's goals this season (7.66 of 15.27).
Close Calls
- Eight of the past 14 - and five of the past eight – matchups between Duke and Syracuse have been decided by one goal with four of them going into overtime. Duke is 3-5 in one-goal games.
