RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 15 Duke rowing claimed third overall in the team standings after the final day of the 2024 ACC Championship on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C.
As a team, Duke totaled 78 points to earn bronze, finishing behind ACC champion No. 10 Syracuse and No. 16 Virginia in second.
The Blue Devils placed all five boats into the grand final races with the Varsity Four highlighting the day after claiming a gold medal. The Second Varsity Four collected a silver medal, while the Second Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight each took home bronze.
Strong performances from sophomore
Lena Mills and senior
Kathryn Nash earned the duo All-ACC accolades. The pair both garnered all-conference honors for the first times in their careers as Mills was named to the first team and Nash earned a second team nod.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke's Third Varsity Eight kicked off the final day of racing, clocking a time of 6:42.378 to earn a spot on the podium.
- It came down to a tight photo finish in the Second Varsity Four race with the top-seeded boat from Virginia narrowly edging the Blue Devils' by .660 seconds. The 2V4 crew of coxswain Mia Khamish, Justine Medveckus, Morven Thomson, Taylor Robinson and Sophia Greco earned the silver medal with a time of 7:11.770.
- The top-seeded Varsity Four boat brought home a gold medal after recording the winning time of 7:05.130. The V4 raced past the second-place Cavaliers and Notre Dame in third by a margin of 6.160 and 9.563 seconds, respectively.
- The Second Varsity Eight stroked their way to a third-place time of 6:27.753 to round out Duke's four medals on the day.
