Brennan O'Neill headlines the Blue Devils' six selections to the 2024 Inside Lacrosse All-America teams as announced by the organization Sunday evening. Joining O'Neill on the All-America list were
Kenny Brower, Andrew McAdorey, Tyler Carpenter, Aidan Maguire and
Jake Naso.
O'Neill captured first-team honors for the second consecutive season, while Brower and McAdorey picked up second-team recognition. Carpenter, Maguire and Naso all were honorable mention recipients.
A three-time Inside Lacrosse All-America pick, O'Neill has led the Blue Devil offense throughout his career. He became the third Blue Devil to win the Tewaaraton Award as the nation's best player, taking home the trophy in 2023. A four-time All-ACC pick, O'Neill has 204 goals and 100 assists to his name to rank fourth at Duke and tied for 20th NCAA Division I history with 304 points.
With four goals against Syracuse in the ACC Championship semifinal, O'Neill became the fourth Duke player and eighth in NCAA DI history to reach the 200-goal benchmark. His 204 goals are tied for seventh in NCAA history and third at Duke. An outstanding passer as well, O'Neill became the eighth Blue Devil to reach 100 career assists. He is just the fourth player in Division I lore to amass 200 career goals and 100 career assists.
A USILA first-team All-America pick in 2023, Brower is one of three Duke defenseman to earn All-ACC recognition three times. He has been a starter for the Blue Devils from day one in Durham, matching up with the opponent's top attackman in every game. The Massapequa, N.Y., native leads the Blue Devils with 19 caused turnovers this season while drawing the matchup with the opponent's top attackman in every game. A second-team choice by Inside Lacrosse a year ago, Brower has played in 79 career games, Brower ranks fourth in Duke history with 73 caused turnovers.
A versatile offensive player, McAdorey leads Duke's first midfield unit with 28 goals and nine assists for 37 points. He has scored at least a point in all 18 games this season and registered at least one goal in 1 6of those. Returning to midfield after one season at attack, McAdorey has not missed a beat. He has multiple goals in eight games and finished the ACC slate with six goals and one assist for seven points. The St. Anthony's product has started all 54 games in his career and has 87 goals and 50 assists for 137 points.
Carpenter, a top longstick midfielder for the Blue Devils, has been a key part of Duke's success on defense and on the faceoff throughout his career. He leads all non-faceoff specialists in ground balls (51) and has 16 caused turnovers this season. Earning USILA All-America third team recognition in 2023, Carpenter has played in 78 career games and has amassed 81 caused turnovers to rank third on the Duke career list. Carpenter, outstanding off the ground, also has an impressive 279 ground balls in his five seasons in Durham.
The anchor to Duke's rope unit, Maguire also is a crucial cog in the Blue Devils' defensive and faceoff success. He is second among non-faceoff specialists with 38 ground balls and has forced 14 turnovers. Dangerous in transition, Maguire also has three goals and three assists for six points. He has helped Duke hold seven opponents to single digits and the Blue Devils to a 10.11 goals against average. He has played in 37 career games and has 62 ground balls, 24 caused turnovers and 12 points (8g, 4a).
Duke's faceoff leader for the past four years, Naso has cemented himself in both the Duke and the NCAA record book. Naso, Duke's record holder in faceoff wins (992) and ground balls (552), has been incredibly consistent for the Blue Devils in winning 59.8 percent of his faceoffs. Earning USILA first-team All-America honors as a junior, Naso won a career-best 315 faceoffs to rank tied for fifth in NCAA Division I history. Playing in 68 career games, Naso's 992 victories at the dot rank seventh in NCAA history, while his 552 ground balls are eighth. His 1,660 faceoffs taken are the second most of any Division I player all-time.
The second-seeded Blue Devils head to Hempstead, N.Y., to take on No. 7 seed Maryland in NCAA Championship quarterfinal action May 18. Action will be televised by ESPNU.
