DURHAM – Junior
Ana Gold broke the program's all-time career home run record with a three-run blast to left field on Tuesday as No. 3 Duke rolled past East Carolina, 10-1, in six innings at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
The Ballston Spa, N.Y., native passed
Kristina Foreman's career mark and now owns 36 career long balls, including seven this season.
Duke's pitching staff of sophomore
Cassidy Curd, graduate student
Dani Drogemuller and senior
Lillie Walker all shared the circle on Tuesday. Walker picked up the win after tossing 1.1 innings of relief, surrendering just one hit while recording one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils were quick to jump out to a 3-0 lead after loading the bases twice in the opening frame. Senior Kelly Torres started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in sophomore D'Auna Jennings, who led off the game with an infield single.
- Two batters later, senior Francesca Frelick registered a two-RBI single into left field to score classmate Claire Davidson and sophomore Aminah Vega, who reached on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively.
- Redshirt sophomore Jada Baker extended Duke's edge in the third inning after dropping an RBI-single into center field to bring in graduate student Gisele Tapia and make it a 4-0 ballgame.
- Gold's three-run shot in the top of the fourth then increased the Blue Devils' advantage to 7-0.
- East Carolina pushed across its lone run in the fifth after connecting on a pair of singles to cut into the lead at 7-1.
- The Blue Devils tacked on three additional runs in the top of the sixth to ultimately seal the run-rule victory.
NOTES
- The Blue Devils earned their tenth run-rule victory of the season and have outscored their opponents, 126-9, in those games.
