DURHAM – The quartet of Blue Devil standouts
Kenny Brower, Andrew McAdorey,
Brennan O'Neill and
Josh Zawada were named to the 2024 ACC Men's Lacrosse All-ACC team, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Regular-season champion Notre Dame led the way with seven players on the 19-player team selected by the league's five head coaches. The Fighting Irish also took home four of the five major awards. Duke's four selections were tied for second with Virginia. Syracuse had three and North Carolina one.
This is the fourth All-ACC recognition for O'Neill, becoming just the second Blue Devil to accomplish the feat.
Jordan Wolf was an All-ACC pick from 2011-14. Brower earns his third consecutive honor to join former Blue Devil standouts
Tyler Hardy and
Cade Van Raaphorst as the only Duke defensemen to garner three conference awards.
The anchor to Duke's close defense, Brower has been a starter for the Blue Devils from day one in Durham. The Massapequa, N.Y., native leads the Blue Devils with 18 caused turnovers while drawing the matchup with the opponent's top attackman in every game. He has forced multiple turnovers in six games this season and corralled 22 ground balls.
Brower was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season after registering a career-high four caused turnovers while holding the Cavaliers to their fewest goals in game of the season and second worst shooting performance. Duke's defense currently ranks second in the ACC and 14th nationally at 9.87 goals allowed per game. A 2023 first-team All-American, Brower has played in 76 career games, Brower ranks fourth in Duke history with 72 caused turnovers.
Garnering his first All-ACC award, McAdorey leads Duke's first midfield unit with 21 goals and seven assists for 28 points. He has scored at least a point in all 15 games this season and registered at least one goal in 14 of those. Returning to the midfield after one season at attack, McAdorey has not missed a beat. He has multiple goals in seven games and finished the ACC slate with six goals and one assist for seven points.
A starter in all 51 of his career games, the Manorville, N.Y., native holds the Duke freshman record for points by a midfielder with 39 his rookie season. McAdorey became the 50th Blue Devil to reach the 100-point mark last season and currently owns 128 career points.
Duke's leader at attack, O'Neill leads the offense with 44 goals and 23 assists for 67 points. He has eight hat tricks and eight five-plus point games for the nation's fourth-ranked scoring offense. A consensus first-team All-America pick in 2023, O'Neill has at least one goal in every game this season and has registered at least three points 11 times. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native scored a season-high six goals in a commanding win over Saint Joseph's and tallied five markers a week later against Jacksonville to earn the ACC Offensive Player of the Week award. He is riding a 43-game goal streak, scoring 134 goals in that stretch.
Playing in 67 career games, O'Neill has 197 goals and 96 assists to his name to rank fourth at Duke with 293 points. He is three goals shy of becoming the third Blue Devil to 200 goals and four helpers away from becoming the eighth player in Duke history to hit the century mark. He currently ranks third among active players in career points and second in goals.
Joining the Blue Devils as a graduate student transfer after a standout career at Michigan, Zawada has not missed a beat since arriving in Durham. He leads Duke and ranks fourth in the ACC with 36 assists (2.40/gm) and has 63 points overall. He has dished out three-plus assists in five games this year and registered five-plus points seven times.
