RALEIGH, N.C. – Fifth-ranked Duke softball closed out the regular season with a 5-3 victory over NC State on Sunday to complete the weekend series sweep at Dail Softball Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 44-6 overall and 20-4 in conference play, while the Wolfpack drops to 27-23 and 3-18 in ACC play.

Cassidy Curd shared the circle on Sunday. Wright earned the start, tossing 4.1 innings and allowed two runs off three hits, while striking out three. Walker was credited with the win, after inheriting a one-out bases loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth and surrendered just one run off one hit. Curd picked up the save, after working 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils were quick to load the bases in the opening frame using a hit by pitch and pair of walks. Graduate student Gisele Tapia opened the scoring with a groundout to second base to bring in senior Kelly Torres from third.
- Redshirt-sophomore Jada Baker extended the Blue Devils' edge to 2-0 in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice bunt to score freshman Amiah Burgess, who led off the inning with a hit by pitch.
- NC State sparked its offense in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs off three hits to pull ahead 3-2.
- The Blue Devils battled back in the following frame with a two-RBI double from sophomore D'Auna Jennings to regain the lead, 4-3.
- Freshman Amiah Burgess added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI-single to plate senior Claire Davidson, who reached on a double down the right field line.
- Curd sat down the final three Wolfpack batters in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory, 5-3.
NOTES
- The Blue Devils' 44 wins sets a program-high for regular season wins and marked the fourth straight season with 19-plus conference wins.
- The Blue Devils claimed their fifth ACC series sweep of the season after also defeating Syracuse, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Clemson in three-game sets.
- Overall, the Blue Devils have outscored the Wolfpack 91-31 in the 15 all-time meetings.
- Walker improves her season ledger to 11-1, after 24 appearances in the circle.
- Curd picked up her second save of the weekend series and third of the year.
