DURHAM – Duke track and field is back in action this weekend as the Blue Devils enter the final stretch of the outdoor track and field regular season, beginning with a trip up the road to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the second annual Wake Forest Invitational April 19 at Kentner Stadium.

WHAT TO KNOW
- Graduate student Aimar Palma Simo was tabbed the ACC Men's Field Performer of the Week following a spectacular showing at the Duke Invite this past weekend.
- Palma Simo collected his second event win of the outdoor campaign while besting his previous PR and own school record by nearly five feet. Stepping into the cage for his fifth attempt, Palma Simo launched the hammer 71.48m (234-6 feet) to slot himself atop the field of 27. The Castellon, Spain product's mark enters the weekend leading the ACC while ranking 10th nationally.
- The Wake Forest Invitational field features athletes from 40 different schools including six other ACC programs in Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech.
- Forty-seven athletes are set to represent the Blue Devils across 32 track and field events.
- Duke boasts 10 different events groups in the top 10 of the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings with three of those in the top five – men's hammer throw (1st), women's 400m hurdles (4th) and women's 800m (4th).
- The women's squad sits atop the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional and ACC rankings.
- On the men's side, Duke checks in at No. 4 in the Southeast Region and No. 3 in the ACC.
- Duke gets the morning going with track events beginning with the men's 5000m at 7:30 a.m. Field events commence at 11 a.m., in the women's hammer throw.

- The Blue Devils delivered a sensational team performance at the Duke Invitational this past weekend with the team winning multiple events while also breaking several school and meet records across the three-day meet.
- The Duke throws unit shined on the first day of the Duke Invitational as the Blue Devils recorded three top-five program marks and five top-five placements across the men's and women's hammer throw competitions.
- Aimar Palma Simo shattered his own school record while Christian Johnson and Christian Toro improved their respective top-five marks in school lore en route to the trio claiming the top three spots in the field. Moorea Mitchell and Zoe Waddell headlined the women's competition for Duke as the pair produced solid performances to secure placements in the top five.
- Graduate student Ezra Mellinger and senior Charlotte Tomkinson headlined another tremendous day of competition on Friday as the pair posted victories in the men's long jump and women's 1500m, respectively, en route to dismounting the meet records in those events.
- In addition to Mellinger and Tomkinson's performances, the Blue Devils also registered four top-five program marks while securing wins in the men's 800m invite, men's long jump and women's high jump.
- Saturday saw another sensational day of competition for Duke as the Blue Devils closed out their annual home meet in style, shattering five records and winning seven events.
- The Blue Devils saw their own program records fall in the women's 4x100m relay and women's triple jump while also unseating meet records in the women's 400m and women's 4x400m – the latter also marking a facility record.

UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will feature a split squad to close out the regular season slate as several members of the team head to the City of Brotherly Love for the Penn Relays (April 25-27) while others travel to Charlotte for the Charlotte Invitational April 26-27.
