DURHAM – Senior attacker Katie DeSimone tallied nine points to lead Duke past Pitt, 13-11, Friday evening at Koskinen Stadium.
DeSimone tallied seven goals and two dimes to lead the team offensively while Carly Bernstein added two goals and two assists. Kerry Nease notched a career-high 12 draw controls and was stellar as Duke won the draw, 21-7. Defensively, midfielder Olivia Carner led the way with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
How It Happened
- Pitt jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in the first quarter as Ava Washington tallied three early goals in 10 minutes.
- Duke's defense locked in during the second quarter and limited the Panthers to just one goal in 10 minutes of action.
- All tied up at 6-6 at the half, Pitt came out of its locker room with three goals in three-and-a-half minutes to take a three-goal lead (9-6).
- Duke took its first lead at 11:50 in the fourth quarter (10-9) since it led late in the second frame.
- The Blue Devils' 6-0 run spanning across 16 minutes of action proved to be the difference maker. DeSimone tallied five goals and an assist in the second half to help lead Duke to its first ACC victory of the season.
