DURHAM – Duke men's lacrosse attackman
Josh Zawada is among the 16 players who have been added to the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List as announced by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation Thursday afternoon.
Zawada joins Blue Devil teammates,
Kenny Brower, Jake Naso, Brennan O'Neill and
Dyson Williams on the list for the top award in collegiate lacrosse.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Duke has had three Tewaaraton winners, including O'Neill in 2023.
A graduate student transfer from Michigan, Zawada has not missed a beat since joining the Blue Devils. The native of Raleigh, N.C., leads Duke and ranks fifth nationally with a 5.83 points per game average. Zawada, a three-time All-Big Ten selection for the Wolverines, has scored at least four points in each of his six games this season and registered at least six in four of them.
A talented feeder from X, Zawada has 20 assists in six games, including dishing six against Saint Joseph's. His 3.33 assists per game average is ninth nationally, while the 114 helpers for his career are fifth among Division I active players.
Zawada has been voted the ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and is two points away from having 250 for his career. Scoring at least one point in all 57 games of his career, Zawada finished his career at Michigan as the school's all-time goals (119) and points (213) leader.
The fifth-ranked Blue Devils start road stretch this weekend at Loyola. Faceoff against the Greyhounds March 9 at 3:30 p.m., on ESPN+.
