DURHAM – Coming off an 11-point weekend, Duke graduate attackman
Josh Zawada has been named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week. This is Zawada's second ACC weekly award and the sixth conference weekly honor of his career.
In a 1-1 weekend for the Blue Devils, Zawada finished the weekend with six goals and five assists for 11 points. His six goals came from just 10 shots, including four on only five attempts against Princeton.
On Friday against No. 17 Penn, the native of Raleigh, N.C., paced the Duke offense with two goals and three assists in a narrow 14-12 setback to the Quakers. He also had four ground balls in the setback.
Zawada turned around two days later and had one of his best games as a Blue Devi, scoring four goals and dishing two assists. He had three of Duke's first six goals and an assist on a fourth as the Blue Devils rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to an 11-3 halftime lead. The Michigan grad transfer tacked on his fourth goal in the third quarter.
Zawada leads all Duke scorers with 35 points from 15 goals and 20 assists. He has at least four points in all six games this season and currently ranks seventh nationally in points per game (5.83) and ninth in assists (3.33).
The Blue Devils came in at No. 5 in the USILA poll and sixth in the Inside Lacrosse rankings this week. Duke hits the road for four of its next five games, starting with Loyola March 9 at 3:30 p.m.
