RALEIGH, N.C. – Amina Maatoug was the headliner for Duke track and field on day two of the Raleigh Relays on Friday as the junior delivered a blistering performance en route to smashing her own school record in the women's 5,000m.

The Blue Devils also received standout performances from graduate students MaKayla Mason, Ezra Mellinger and Tia Rozario with the trio slotting themselves into the program record books in each of their respective events.

TOP PERFORMANCES

Maatoug got her outdoor season off to a fast start and turned in the stoutest performance of the afternoon for the Blue Devils.
The Leiden, Netherlands product delivered a spectacular race in the women's 5,000m, shaving 11 seconds off her previous best while locking down a third-place finish via a time of 15:37.38.
The Blue Devils notched a pair of runner-up finishes in the women's discus and women's triple jump, respectively, via the efforts of Mason and Rozario.
Opening the Friday slate of events for Duke, Mason set the tone for the day being the first to make a revision to the program record books. On her second attempt of the competition, Mason sent her instrument flying 50.83m (166-9 feet) – good for second among the field and No. 2 in program lore.
Over in the women's triple jump, Rozario used her initial jump to slot herself third all-time at Duke. Rozario's first jump was her furthest of the event, flying out to 12.77m (41-10.75 feet) as she became the first Duke woman since 2019 to earn a spot on the program charts in the event.
Mellinger rounded out the record-breaking performances with a personal-best showing in the men's 100m.
The Ronks, Pa., product placed 10th among the 69-person field via a time of 10.48 seconds, a mark checking in at No. 5 in program history.
Duke also notched an event win in the women's high jump behind a strong performance from senior Brianna Smith.
After passing on the first two heights, Smith cleared the ensuing three on her first attempt before bowing out of the competition with a final clearance of 1.75m (5-8.75 feet), edging out former Blue Devil standout Erin Marsh for the win.
