COLUMBUS, Ohio - Epeeist Allen Marakov tied for third place as the Duke fencing team concluded the 2024 NCAA Fencing Championship in Columbus, Ohio.Â
As a team, Duke placed 10th with 73 points to register the first top-10 finish under first-year Duke head coach Omar Elgeziry.Â
Marakov collected his first All-America accolade during his Duke career with his finish in the epee competition today. His bronze finish was the best of a Duke men's epee player since 2014 when Alessio Santoro finished tied for third. Duke has also had an individual in any weapon in the final four in three of the last four years.Â
After the first three rounds of pool play Saturday, he was in fifth place with 10 victories.Â
Marakov continued his strong play into Sunday with seven wins to earn a spot in the final four as the No. 2 seed. He faced off against eventual runner-up, Jonathan Hamilton-Meikle (Notre Dame), and fell just short (15-12) in the semifinal.Â
Freshman Samir Travers finished the saber competition in 22nd, rounding out his first event on the collegiate fencing national stage.Â
Harvard collected the team championship with 169 total points, while Notre Dame (161), Columbia (149), Princeton (131) and Penn State (130) round out the top five.Â
