How it Happened
- It took 12:11 for either team to get on the scoreboard as Andrew McAdorey put Duke up 1-0 on an assist from O'Neill. Duke freshman goalie Jameison made five saves in the opening 15 minutes and the Blue Devil defense forced the Spiders into four turnovers to take a 1-0 lead into the first break.
- Richmond ended its scoreless drought at 17:53 to even the score at 1-1. Lance Madonna put the Spiders on the board.
- Duke answered 21 seconds later on a Zawada tally. Winning the faceoff, the Blue Devils cleared perfectly to Jake Naso who found Carpenter in the middle. The veteran pole quickly dished it to Zawada for the attackman's 18th goal of the season.
- Luke Grayum tied the score for the Spiders tied the score midway through the second quarter. Zawada answered for the Blue Devils again three minutes later, giving the Duke the lead again with 4:12 left in the first half.
- Sophomore Charles Balsamo turned the corner a couple minutes later to put the Blue Devils in front by two.
- Jameison and the Duke defense continued to shine in the second quarter, holding Richmond to seven shots. The rookie backstop had eight saves in the first 30 minutes.
- Much like it's done all season, the Blue Devil offense struck quickly at the start of the third quarter with a pair of goals in a span of 29 seconds for a 6-2 lead. O'Neill had the first, while Naso had the second off a pass from O'Neill.
- Duke's offense continued to fire on all cylinders, tacking on four more in a span of 4:42 for a 10-2 lead with 6:26 left in the frame. The Blue Devil defense was equally as impressive, keeping the Spiders off the board for another quarter, including killing off a pair of 30-second penalties.
- Scoring slowed for the Blue Devils in the fourth quarter with O'Neill and McAdorey notching the lone tallies for Duke.
- Naso won 7-of-16 faceoffs, picked up three ground balls and scored a goal. Duke won the ground ball battle 23-20 and held Richmond to just 30 shots.
Notes

- The 30 shots taken by Richmond were the fewest by the Spiders all season, while the three goals were 12 fewer than their scoring average of 15.86. The three goals allowed by the Blue Devils are the fewest since the 2018 squad held Cleveland State to three.
