DURHAM, N.C.— At least one former Blue Devil will lift the 2025 PLL Championship trophy as a five former Duke stars take to the field at Sports Illustrated Stadium to vie for the US Bank PLL Championship Sunday afternoon.
Faceoff between the Denver Outlaws and New York Atlas is set for Sept. 14 at 12:30 p.m., on ABC. Denver's JT Giles-Harris,
Jack Gray, Michael Manley and
Brennan O'Neill and Atlas longstick midfielder
Tyler Carpenter will match up against each other with hopes of bringing home the first PLL Championship for their franchise.
The regular season matchup in August between the teams was one to remember as Denver rallied from a 9-4 halftime deficit to win 13-12 in overtime. O'Neill finished with two goals in the comeback win, while Manley and Giles-Harris combined for four ground balls and a caused turnover while holding New York to just three second-half goals.
Despite not coming away with the win, Carpenter turned in an outstanding performance in the game with seven ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist.
Giles-Harris and Manley are the anchors to Denver's close defense. Manley, in his 14th of professional lacrosse, is the oldest player in the PLL and hopes to bring home his first professional title after climbing to the pinnacle as part of Duke's 2010 NCAA Championship squad. The consummate team leader, Manley is a finalist for the Brendan Looney Leadership Award.
Giles-Harris, a finalist for the Dave Pietramala Defensive Player of the Year, is coming off a masterclass performance in the semifinals. He held Chris Kavanagh, who entered the game with 16 points in the past three games, to just a goal and an assist on 1-of-7 shooting.
O'Neill has been a human highlight reel all season en route to being named a finalist for the Eamon McAnaney Attackman of the Year and the Jim Brown Most Valuable Player of the Year awards. He has 40 points in 11 games this season – a nine-point improvement from his rookie season. In the regular season matchup with the Atlas, O'Neill had two goals on nine shots and three ground balls.
Carpenter continues to shine for New York's defensive unit, collecting 29 ground balls and forcing seven turnovers in his 11 outings. He also has a two-point goal and an assist. The 2024 longstick midfielder of the year is a two-time all-PLL selection, excelling at the top level of the game.
