DURHAM – Duke senior attackman
Brennan O'Neill scored six goals to lead the second-ranked Blue Devils to a convincing 19-10 victory over Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.

The Blue Devils defense held the Hawks to just five goals in the final three quarters to push Duke to 3-0 on the season. Saint Joseph's falls to 0-2.
How it Happened
- The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair with Duke holding a 6-5 advantage on a goal in the final second from pole Jake Wilson. The opening 15 minutes featured four ties and two lead changes as five different Blue Devils registered goals. Williams had a goal and an assist, while O'Neill had two.
- After Saint Joseph's tied the game midway through the second quarter, Duke went on a 3-0 run in a span of 3:10 to take a 9-6 lead into the break. O'Neill sparked the spurt on a Zawada pass. Sophomore Max Sloat notched his second of the season and Benn Johnston capped the quarter with 2:06 remaining for the three-goal advantage.
- The balanced scoring continued in the third quarter as Duke extended its lead to 14-7. Saint Joseph's lone goal came on extra-man. All five of Duke's goals came off different sticks. Defensively, Duke held the Hawks to just eight shots in the period, while Jake Naso won all six faceoffs. Naso won 20-of-26 faceoffs for the game and picked up 13 ground balls.
- Duke's offense continued to fire on all cylinders in the fourth quarter with five goals in a span of 2:32, including three in 50 seconds. The Blue Devils once again held Saint Joseph's to eight shots in a quarter and won 7-of-9 faceoffs.
- Overall, Duke had nine different goal scorers and fired just 39 shots with 27 of them coming on goal.
- A quartet of Blue Devils caused two turnovers apiece as Jake Wilson, Kenny Brower, Jake Caputo and Tyler Carpenter helped lead the defensive charge. Aidan Maguire had a goal and an assist and three ground balls to lead the rope unit. Carpenter also scooped four ground balls, while O'Neill picked up five off the ground.
- At the faceoff dot, Duke won 24-of-31 with Cal Girard going 4-for-4 with two ground balls. In goal rookie Patrick Jameison had 12 saves in 53 minutes of action. Griffen Rakower spelled Jameison for six minutes on a penalty against the freshman backstop, making three saves.
Notes
- O'Neill registered his 31st career hat trick and his 25th game with at least five points. He extends his goal streak to 31 games, scoring 102 in that span. The six tallies today pushed his career total to 165, six shy of passing Matt Danowski for fifth in Duke history. He has 247 career points to stay put at sixth on the Duke chart.
- Williams posted his 33rd career hat trick and third this season. He now has 162 career goals to rank seventh in Blue Devil lore.
- Naso pushed his career faceoff wins total to 838 to sit in a tie for 11th in NCAA Division I history. His 13 ground balls give him 469 for his career – six shy of passing Brendan Fowler for the Duke record. He ranks 19th in NCAA Division I history and is 41 away from 10th.
- Carpenter had two caused turnovers to tie Cade Van Raaphorst for fourth in Duke history with 67. He is 13 away from becoming the third Blue Devil to amass 80.
- Duke extends its home win streak to 13 games, dating back to April of 2022.
