DURHAM, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) final rankings for the fall season were released Tuesday with four Duke standouts listed in the top 50 of the singles ledger, while the Blue Devils featured two doubles teams ranked.
In singles, senior
Emma Jackson led the way with a No. 25 ranking, while sophomore
Eleana Yu (30), freshman
Irina Balus (36) and sophomore
Shavit Kimchi (49) were all listed.
Duke's All-American doubles duo of
Ellie Coleman and Balus came in at a career-best No. 10 overall, while Jackson and Yu were at No. 71.
Jackson, a product of La Grange Park, Ill., is coming off advancing to the round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championship in Waco, Texas and posted a team-best 13 singles victories in the fall. She heads into the spring with 75 career singles wins.
After totaling a 7-3 ledger in her first fall with the Blue Devils, Yu moved up to a career-best No. 30 in the ITA rankings. The Mason, Ohio native totaled a pair of victories over ranked foes along the way.
One of only three freshmen to compete in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships recently, Balus entered the national rankings at No. 36. Balus, who is from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, totaled a 7-2 singles mark in the fall with two wins against ranked opponents.
Rounding out the singles rankings for the Blue Devils was Kimchi at No. 49. A product of Sdey Hemed, Israel, Kimchi collected six wins in the fall and owns 23 singles victories in her short Duke career.
Duke's doubles tandem of Balus and Coleman reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship to earn All-America honors. The duo carded a 9-2 ledger with two wins over top 25 opponents.
Jackson and Yu were tabbed No. 71 overall, after posting a 3-2 mark this past fall. This included an impressive win against an eighth-ranked Colorado tandem.
As a team, Duke featured a team-best four players in the NCAA Singles Championship last month.
