DURHAM, N.C. – Heading into postseason action, the Duke women's tennis team moved to No. 18 nationally, following victories over No. 14 NC State, Florida State and No. 35 Miami this past week.
Riding a five-match winning streak, the Blue Devils improved to 17-6 overall and 10-2 in the ACC. Duke finished in a tie for third place in the ACC standings and received the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ACC Championship.
In singles play, sophomore
Irina Balus is now No. 14 and freshman
Aspen Schuman received her highest career ranking at No. 48. Rounding out the singles rankings are sophomore
Liv Hovde at No. 117 and junior
Eleana Yu at No. 124.
Duke continues to feature three doubles teams ranked with junior
Shavit Kimchi and Hovde (#40), Hovde and Balus (#48) and freshman
Claire An and Yu (#71).
A native of Menlo Park, California, Schuman is coming off an impressive week as she went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles, while registering the match-clinching singles victories in all three contests. She is now 15-3 overall and 10-1 in ACC singles action, while totaling a 13-4 overall and 8-1 ACC doubles ledger. Schuman became just the 10th Blue Devil to reach 10 ACC singles wins as a rookie.
The Blue Devils are set to open ACC Championship play Friday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m., versus either Miami, Wake Forest or Syracuse at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary.
