Blue Devils Drop Pair of Matches at WrangleMania in Dual Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Duke wrestling team opened dual match play Saturday with a pair of contests at WrangleMania, which was contested at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pa. The Blue Devils dropped the opener against LIU Brookville, 38-8, and then fell, 46-4, to 15th-ranked Rutgers.

Blue Devil sophomore Aidan Wallace went undefeated on the day with two wins in the 165-pound weight class to notch his fourth and fifth wins of the season. A native of Mahwah, N.J., Wallace is now 5-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the morning against LIU, Duke tallied eight points from victories by sophomore Aidan Wallace and redshirt sophomore Connor Barket.
Wallace highlighted the action with five team points after registering a tech fall, 15-0 (2:13), over James Johnston of LIU.
Barket continued his solid start with a 3-0 decision at heavyweight versus Chris Powell to add on three points for the Blue Devils.
Duke rookie Vincent Lee was solid in his match at 197, but narrowly dropped in a 7-5 decision against Gavin Claro.
In the afternoon dual against nationally-ranked Rutgers, Wallace registered Duke's lone points as he collected a major decision over Luke Gayer at 165, 10-0.

WHAT IS NEXT

Duke now moves to Freedom High School on Sunday, Nov. 10 for the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, where the Blue Devils will compete individually.
