DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 11 Duke women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 with a bang as the Blue Devils parlayed an extremely balanced offensive attack and a stalwart defensive performance into a resounding, 89-36, victory over Radford Monday morning.

Toby Fournier rounded out the Blue Devils' quintet of double-digit scorers with 10 points each. Donovan paced Duke on the glass with nine boards, finishing with a near double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils got off to a red-hot start offensively, hitting 11 of their 20 attempts (55 percent) during the opening period en route to building a 26-9 advantage.
- On the defensive end, Duke picked up right where it left off, forcing nine Radford turnovers and holding the Highlanders to just 23-percent from the field.
- Richardson paced the efforts with seven points during the 10-minute session while Ashlon Jackson, Thomas and Wood chipped in four points apiece.
- Graduate student Vanessa de Jesus and Fournier joined in on the scoring action. Fournier netted her first career points on a running hook, while de Jesus announced her return to the hardwood with a floater in the lane.
- The sophomore quartet of Donovan, Okananwa, Thomas and Wood combined for 12 of Duke's 14 points in the second period.
- Duke's lead reached as high as 23 in the opening half, with Wood surpassing her career high via an old-fashioned three-point play to put the home team up, 38-15, at the 4:56 mark.
- Radford finished the period with a plus-one margin on the scoreboard (15-14), but Duke held a 40-24 lead at the break.
- The Blue Devils put up a 31 spot in the third quarter, while the defense stifled the Highlanders in holding them to just six points during the frame. At the end of three, the margin stood at 71-30.
- Nine different players scored in the period for the home team led by Fournier (6), Koabel (5) and Okananwa (5).
- Duke put the finishing touches on the win, outscoring the Highlanders 18-6 in the fourth to lock down the 53-point triumph.
