DURHAM, N.C.— Duke wrestling captured a trio of wins at 149 and 165-pounds and heavyweight in a 35-11 loss to eighth-ranked Michigan Friday evening at Jordan High School.
Peter Chacon and
Aidan Wallace both garnered major decisions while
Connor Barket emerged victorious in thrilling fashion at heavyweight for the Blue Devils. Duke moves to 1-4 in duals while Michigan is 2-0.
How it Happened
- Michigan jumped out to a 15-0 lead behind three consecutive technical falls at 125, 133 and 141-pounds.
- Peter Chacon scored the first points for the Blue Devils, picking up an impressive 8-0 major decision over Zar Walker at 149. After a scoreless first period, Chacon opened the second stanza with a reversal for the 2-0 lead. Chacon rode out the period, entering the final two minutes with a 2-0 lead and over a minute of riding time.
- The sophomore extended his lead to 3-0 with an escape and followed with a takedown en route to the 8-0 major decision.
- The Wolverines added five team points to their total with another technical fall at 157 before Aidan Wallace turned in a thrilling final period to upend Michigan's Josh Knudten, 12-4, from the 165-pound spot.
- Knudten held a narrow 4-2 lead after three minutes. An escape by Wallace in the early seconds of the second pulled the sophomore within one. Knudten and Wallace traded shots with neither able to get on the scoreboard again.
- The third period was all Wallace as he turned Knudten for three near-fall points. The Mahwah, New Jersey native tacked on five more points for the 12-4 triumph.
- Barket capped the night for the Blue Devils at heavyweight with a thrilling, 8-5, decision over Ira Jenkins. Ranked 32nd by FloWrestling, Barket scored the opening points and led 4-1 early in the second frame. Jenkins tied the match with his first takedown with 45 seconds left in the second period, setting up the exciting finish.
- Jenkins, holding choice, took his first lead of the night, 5-4, with an escape early in the third. Following a few stoppages after the action had left the circle, Barket finished his final shot for the winning takedown and riding time bonus point.

- Connor Barket has won six straight and moves to 10-2 overall on the season.
