DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's soccer assistant coach
Carla Overbeck will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on February 15, 2025, as announced by the board of directors recently.
Overbeck will be one of eight selected individuals inducted including Cedric Benson, Todd Dodge, Brittney Griner, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Biz Mackey, Chris Plonsky and Richmond Webb.
The 64th Annual Texas Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet presented by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, will be held in the BASE at Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
In her 33rd season on the Duke staff, Overbeck has helped lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA Tournament 28 times, including the NCAA College Cup appearances in 1992, 2011, 2015 and 2017. For their success in 2017, Overbeck and the entire Blue Devil staff were named the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year, becoming the first Duke women's soccer staff to receive the honor. Overbeck has also helped lead Duke to NCAA quarterfinal appearances in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2016, 2013, 2012, 2008 and 2007.
So far this season, Overbeck and the Blue Devils are ranked No. 1 nationally and won the ACC Regular Season title for the fourth time in program history. Duke finished off the regular season with an undefeated ledger, 9-0-1, for only the third time in Blue Devil lore. The Blue Devils head into the ACC Championship as the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2017.
Overbeck grew up in Richardson, Texas and attended Richardson High School. A former college soccer player herself, Overbeck won four consecutive national championships with the University of North Carolina.
In addition to her accomplished college career, Overbeck played for the U.S. Women's National Team from 1988-2000, playing in three Women's World Cups and the 1996 Olympic Games where she was captain and led the team to a gold medal. In her professional career, Overbeck also won a WUSA league title in her time with the Carolina Courage and a W-League championship with the Raleigh Wings.
In 1999, Overbeck was named the Sports Illustrated Sportswoman of the Year and was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006.
