BLACKSBURG, Virginia – No. 10 Duke men's soccer (8-2-4, 3-1-3 ACC) remained unbeaten away from home this season, defeating Virginia Tech (7-5-2, 1-5-1 ACC) 1-0 at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Junior midfielder
Drew Kerr notched the game's only tally, scoring a top-shelf goal in the 53rd minute just outside the penalty area. The Blue Devils dug in during the second half, as
Wessel Speel shut out the Hokies for his fourth consecutive clean sheet and the fifth this season. Speel tallied five saves across the two periods, including two in the final 10 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke registered the first scoring chance in the 3rd minute of action as they were awarded a corner kick.
- After a scoreless first half, Duke led the shot totals 5-2 and had the only corner kick in the first half.
- Graduate Wessel Speel tallied one save in the first 45 minutes of action, while Virginia Tech committed eight fouls in the first half.
- In the 53rd minute, Drew Kerr ended the scoreless streak, rifling a shot into the top left corner, after Kamran Acito started the attack.
- In the 62nd minute, Speel denied a would-be goal scorer to keep the Blue Devils ahead late.
- With 15 minutes to play, Jose Ortega nearly doubled Duke's lead, hunting the top left corner from just outside the top of the penalty area, before Cooper Wenzel registered a sprawling save.

- Duke improves to 8-2-4 overall and 3-1-3 in ACC play, moving to 12 points on the season.
