DURHAM, N.C. — Recently, the Duke wrestling team held a very special signing day event on the Blue Devil campus as Duke head coach
Glen Lanham and the Blue Devils welcomed
James Walter officially to the squad.Â
Â
Walter, a student at Holly Ridge Middle School in Holly Springs, N.C., matched with the Duke wrestling team last year through Team IMPACT, after he was diagnosed with an early T-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia lymphoma and began an intense chemotherapy regimen in Dec. 2021. Walter though officially rang the ball being cancer free over the summer and has returned to school and normal activities.Â
Â
The Blue Devils look forward to having Walter at practices and matches supporting the squad this season.Â
Team IMPACT matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams, creating a long-term, life-changing experience for everyone involved.
