LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman
Oluchi Okananwa scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, but the Duke women's basketball team (9-5, 1-2 ACC) dropped a 61-44 decision to No. 17 Louisville Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center.
Senior
Kennedy Brown led the efforts on the glass with 10 rebounds while three Blue Devils – Brown, Mair and Okananwa – dished out two assists apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter was tightly contested and featured a pair of ties and two lead changes.
- The game opened with the teams trading runs. Louisville scored seven of the game's first nine points to grab an early lead before Duke countered with a 7-0 run of its own to surge ahead, 9-7, at the 6:24 mark via Jadyn Donovan's finish in transition.
- Oluchi Okananwa (2) and Reigan Richardson (1) added field goals for the Blue Devils' late in the period, but it was Louisville who held a 21-15 lead after one.
- Louisville outscored Duke 14-4 in the second and held a 35-19 lead at the half. Okananwa and Richardson accounted for the Duke field goals during the session.
- Duke registered a dozen points in the third quarter with five people contributing to the scoring efforts, Camilla Emsbo (4) and Okananwa (3) leading the charge.
- The Blue Devils closed the game strong, scoring the game's final six points. Duke forced Louisville into seven turnovers in the final period.
