BOSTON, Mass. – Senior distance runner
Austin Gabay's record-breaking performance in the men's 3,000m race headlined the opening day of competition for Duke track and field at the BU Terrier Classic. The Blue Devils also got a trio of solid performances in the men's mile run, two of which came via personal bests.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Gabay etched himself into the Duke history books with a career-best performance in the men's 3,000m Friday afternoon.
- The senior clocked 8:01.79, good for 15th among the field, slotting himself No. 2 all-time in program lore.
- Graduate student Sam Rivera turned in a solid showing in the 3,000m race as well, earning a top-30 finish via a time of 8:10.86.
- The Duke men saw three individuals place among the top 35 of a stacked field competing in the mile run – Rory Cavan, Jeremy Kain and Beck Wittstadt.
- Wittstadt paced the trio and checked in at No. 24 with a mark of 4:01.42. Cavan finished a few spots back, placing 30th behind a PR of 4:02.33 while Kain crossed the finish line in 4:02.85 to take 34th – the sophomore's time registering as a career best.
