DURHAM -- Duke heavyweight sophomore Connor Barket was named ACC Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, coming off an impressive week on the mat. Barket earned the recognition for the first time in his collegiate career.
A native of West Lafayette, Ind., Barket is coming off two dominating wins last week against Gardner-Webb and Chattanooga. On Jan. 16, Barket claimed his victory with an efficient pin in the second period against Gardner-Webb's Peyton McComas. In Friday's match against Chattanooga, Barket tallied his third tech fall of the season, showcasing his dominance early and resulted in a 18-2 victory over Kendrick Curtis.
Barket has won five out of his last six dual matches with wins against Chattanooga, Gardner-Webb, Queens, The Citadel and Davidson. Barket leads the Blue Devils with a team-high 13 victories.
The wrestler of the week honor for the Blue Devils is the first since Josh Finesilver earned the nod on Jan. 4, 2022.
Barket will return to action this week for Duke's ACC opener against Virginia at 7 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday, Jan. 26.
