DURHAM - With the spring season just around the corner, the Duke women's lacrosse program shines its spotlight on its freshman class, continuing with Cameron Christie.
Cameron Christie comes to Durham from Annapolis, Md., where she attended Severn School as a goalie.
She lettered multiple seasons and during her junior year, she posted a 63% save percentage between the pipes and earned the team's player award for her efforts.
Christie comes from a highly athletic family – her dad, Joe, played lacrosse at Drexel and has seen several coaching jobs, including at Stanford, Drexel, the Annapolis Hawks, Episcopal Academy and now at Severn. Her sister, Julia, sails at the Naval Academy while her cousin played Division I hockey at Merrimack College. Outside of lacrosse, Christie also lettered in basketball as a point guard.
Christie joins seven other Blue Devils in the freshmen class.
Why did you choose Duke?
"I chose Duke because of the community and atmosphere of the school. Everyone is always pushing each other and supporting each other, which you do not find everywhere. Regarding the community, no matter who you are or what you're interested in there is a community for you. I think it's so special that Duke has this and can provide a sense of belonging for anyone that's a part of the community, which isn't just the students, it's the people committed, alumni, faculty, staff and fans. This is something that I didn't see anywhere else, and instantly wanted to be a part of it."
To be part of the Duke women's lacrosse program is …
"Being part of something bigger than myself. It's not just about you as an individual on the team, it's about your teammates and coaches pushing you to be the best version of yourself on and off the field and you doing the same to them."
