DURHAM – With the cross country season set to commence in a little over two months, Duke director of track & field and cross country
Shawn Wilbourn, along with head cross country coach
Angela Reckart, unveiled the Blue Devils' cross country slate ahead of the 2023 campaign.
The Blue Devils return 24 letterwinners, including standout and USTFCCCA All-American
Amina Maatoug, from its 2022 men's and women's squad that posted one meet win and 10 top-10 finishes.
"Our schedule this fall will be very competitive for both the men's and women's teams," said Reckart. "It sets us up to have opportunities to race teams outside of our region to potentially earn at-large bid points as we head into the NCAA Regional meet. We open at Elon and then head to Charlottesville to preview the NCAA Championship course. Next, we head to Madison to compete in one of the NCAA's most competitive meets at the Nuttycombe Invitational before we gear up for championship season with ACCs and NCAA Regionals."
Duke opens the season on the road in Elon, N.C., on Sept. 1 as the Blue Devils look to turn in another strong showing at the Elon Opener. At the 2022 rendition of the event, the Duke women notched a runner-up finish while the men's squad placed first to pick up its third straight Elon Opener win. Following a week off from competition, the Blue Devils return to the course for the Adidas Cross Country Challenge in Cary, N.C., (Sept. 15) before closing out the month at the Virginia Invitational (Charlottesville, Va.) on Sept. 23.
October features a pair of marquee meets. Duke kicks off the month with the final meet of the regular season set to take place on Oct. 13, as the team makes the trek north to Madison, Wis., to take part in the Nuttycombe Invitational. Duke travels to the Sunshine State for the final event of the month – the ACC Championships, hosted by Florida State on Oct. 27.
Postseason competition wraps up with the NCAA Southeast Regional and the NCAA Championships Nov. 10 and Nov. 18, respectively. The regional will be held in Spartanburg, S.C., on the campus of USC Upstate while the NCAA Championship will be held in Charlottesville on the Panorama Farms course.
