SPARKS, Md. – Incoming Duke women's lacrosse freshman
Caitlin Barrett has been named to the 2024 U.S. Women's U20 Training Team, the training team's head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller announced.
The 42 players named to the training team come from high schools from 12 states and the District of Columbia and represent 20 colleges with their current enrollment or commitment.
The U20 training team will be back at USA Lacrosse for a training camp in August and will compete at the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic in October before the final roster is ultimately selected to represent the country at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China next summer.
Barrett joins the Duke women's lacrosse team from Manhasset, N.Y., and graduated from Manhasset High School. As a midfielder, she tallied 40 goals and nine assists in her final season as a senior. She collected High School All-American recognition, Newsday All-Long Island first team, All-Nassau County and was named to the top 100 players on Long Island list by Newsday. She was elected team captain as a senior and is a member of the National Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
Formerly, a U19 event, World Lacrosse raised the age group to U20 after the 2019 championship in Peterborough, Ontario. Amonte Hiller was the head coach for the 2019 team and helped lead the U.S. to its fifth gold medal in the event. The U.S won the event in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2019. Australia won the inaugural championship in 1995 and Canada won in 2015 with the U.S. finishing as the runner-up at those two events.
