AUSTIN, Texas – Day three of the NCAA Outdoor Championships saw the Duke track and field team collect two more United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors and make some program history in the process, as graduate student
Robbie Otal earned a nod to the second team while senior
Beau Allen obtained honorable mention accolades.
The Blue Devil men close the door on an incredible outdoor season that saw the team produce 12 top-five program marks and shatter school records in the 4xMile relay, discus, hammer throw and javelin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Graduate student Robbie Otal reeled in USTFCCCA All-America Second Team accolades for the second time in as many seasons after finishing 10th overall in the stacked men's discus field.
- Otal's initial attempt was his furthest of the evening, with the throw checking in at 60.07m (197-1 feet). The Oak Park, Calif., product inserted himself into the Duke record books becoming just the second Duke man all-time – and the first in a decade (Austin Gamble, 2013) – to garner All-America honors in the men's discus.
- Senior Beau Allen earned his first-career All-America selection Friday night while also making program history in the process.
- Allen became the first Duke man to be dubbed a USTFCCCA All-American in the outdoor men's high jump, leaping 2.06m (6-9 feet) to collect honorable mention honors.
