DURHAM – Duke senior attackman
Dyson Williams was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week following his seven-point performance against Syracuse Saturday. This is his first weekly recognition in 2023 and the sixth time a Blue Devil has captured the honor this season.
Williams paced Duke's stellar attack unit this past Saturday with six goals and an assist in the Blue Devils' 18-15 win over No. 19 Syracuse. The lefty attackman's six goals marked his third sock trick (six goals) and 27th career hat trick. Duke's victory clinched the ACC title for the Blue Devils and pushed Williams to fourth on the goals list among Division I players this season.
The Oshawa, Ontario native recorded at least one goal in each quarter and scored the eventual game-winning goal that stopped a 4-0 Syracuse run that had pulled the Orange to within two, 15-13, in the fourth quarter.
In the third quarter with time ticking down on the shot clock, Williams took a pass from
Tommy Schelling and threw a behind-the-back shot past the Syracuse goaltender to extend Duke's lead to 15-9. He added an assist late in the fourth quarter to help Duke seal the victory.
Williams has a career-high 47 goals to rank second in the ACC and fourth nationally. He is three goals shy of becoming just the 17th player in Duke history to record 50 goals in a season. He has a goal in 17 consecutive contests and has scored at least one goal in 51 of his 54 career outings.
Duke moved back to No. 1 in the national rankings this week and closes out its regular season against Merrimack at the Battle at Bethpage. The Blue Devils and Warriors face off at 1 p.m., at Bethpage High School.
