DURHAM – Duke junior attackman
Brennan O'Neill garnered the first ACC Offensive Player of the Week for the 2023 season after a seven-point outing in a 19-7 win over Bellarmine last weekend. This is O'Neill's fifth career ACC weekly honor.
O'Neill, entering the 2023 season opener with 98 career goals, notched a pair of tallies to become the 22nd Blue Devil to reach 100 career goals. He is the fastest player in program history to reach the benchmark, doing so in 35 career games. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native added a career-high five assists in the win over the Knights to record his 12th career game with at least five points.
O'Neill's first goal gave Duke a 4-0 lead in the fourth quarter. He provided assists on two of the next three goals as the Blue Devils took an 8-0 advantage into the locker room. It was the O'Neill and
Dyson Williams show in the third and fourth quarters as he dished his fellow attackman three times for scores. O'Neill also forced two turnovers on the ride, leading to a pair of Duke markers.
The Blue Devils return to action Tuesday night against High Point. The 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year heads into the contest with 136 career points to rank 34th in Duke history. He is averaging 2.9 goals per game in his career and 3.9 points per game.
Faceoff versus the Panthers is set for 7 p.m., on ACCNX.
