Duke Closes Out ACC Fencing Championship Sunday

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Duke fencing team closed out the 2023 ACC Fencing Championship Sunday with the team event. The 12th-ranked women finished second while the ninth-ranked men tied for second place in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The women started off the day with a victory over North Carolina (15-12) in the morning before a 24-3 win over Boston College. The Blue Devils then fell to Notre Dame (19-8) to close out the session.
Co-captain Zsofia Walter (saber) led the entire women's team with a 7-1 record, including two wins over Notre Dame, followed by Chloe Beittel (epee) with six.
In the afternoon session, the Blue Devil men took the fencing strips next and secured one win as the No. 4 seed. Duke fell to Notre Dame (18-9) in the first round before defeating North Carolina (19-8). The Duke men closed out the day with a 17-10 setback to Boston College.
Finn Hossfeld (foil) tallied eight victories while Allen Marakov (epee) and Stephen Kim (saber) added six wins.

Next up, qualifying Blue Devils will have some time before the 2023 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday, March 11.
